For traps that feel tight, look bulky, or both. Xeomin is placed into the upper trapezius, the muscle that runs from your neck to your shoulders. As it relaxes, the shoulder line slims.

How your provider decides

  1. Your provider feels both traps and asks you to shrug.
  2. Then asks what you want most, a lighter feeling or a slimmer line, and which side feels tighter.
  3. Splits the dose between the two sides, sometimes unevenly. If you lift heavy or work overhead, mention it so the dose can be planned around it.

What to expect

  • A lighter feeling usually shows at 2 to 3 weeks. Slimming is gradual and builds over repeat sessions.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Frequent intense training can make results wear off sooner.
  • If you need a touch-up, it is the same $6 a unit and the 20-unit minimum is waived. For large muscles that is within 2 months.

Possible side effects

  • Temporary shoulder or arm weakness, mostly when lifting. It is uncommon and wears off. Take care with heavy lifting and overhead work while it settles.
  • Bruising or tenderness at the injection sites.

Trap tox is a cosmetic treatment, but many people tell us their shoulders feel less tight afterward, usually at 2 to 3 weeks.
“I've heard you can't use your traps after. I'm pretty active.”
You can. Your shoulders may feel heavier when lifting for a while. Temporary weakness is uncommon and wears off. Tell your provider about your training so the dose can be planned around it.
“I'll be OK to run in 2 days, right?”
Yes. Avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours. After that you can run. Frequent intense training can make it wear off sooner.
“Does the trap hurt more than the face?”
Most people find it no worse than the face. We use ice and a vibration tool.
“One shoulder naturally goes higher than the other. Could this help?”
If one side is bulkier or tighter, your provider can put more on that side. It changes the muscle, not bone or posture.
“How long does it usually last in the traps?”
Typically 3 to 4 months. If slimming is your goal, it builds over repeat sessions.
