Xeomin vs. Botox

They are different brands of botulinum toxin type A. Both are FDA-approved for cosmetic use, and both do the same job — relax the muscle. We use Xeomin.

The difference is the formulation. Botox carries accessory proteins around the active molecule. Xeomin doesn't — it's sometimes described as a "naked" toxin.

Because Xeomin is made without these accessory proteins, some clinicians believe there's less for the immune system to recognize and react to, which may reduce the risk of the body building resistance to the toxin over time even with repeated use. This hasn't been proven to completely eliminate that risk, but it's one of the reasons we chose Xeomin.

Who this is for

  • Lines on your forehead, between your brows, or at the corners of your eyes
  • A square jawline you'd like softened, or clenching and grinding — masseter
  • A jawline and neck you'd like more defined — Nefertiti neck lift
  • Smaller adjustments: lip flip, gummy smile, nose contour, brow lift, chin dimpling
  • Trapezius, calves, or underarm sweating
  • Pores, oil and texture rather than movement — that's Dermatoxin, a micro-toxin treatment

Does it hurt?

The needle is very fine and each injection takes a couple of seconds. Most clients tell us it hurts less than a flu shot.

Before and after your treatment

Before your treatment

  • 3 months — wait at least this long since your last toxin treatment anywhere. Re-treating sooner can build resistance and weaken results.
  • 24 hours — no NSAIDs or supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil/omega-3, vitamin E, ginkgo, garlic, ginseng). They reduce clotting and increase bruising.
  • 24 hours — no alcohol or recreational drugs.
  • On the day — clean face, light meal, stay hydrated. Arrive 15 min early if you're having Dermatoxin and want numbing cream.
  • Never stop a prescribed blood thinner without your doctor's approval.

After your treatment

  • 4 hours — stay upright, no lying down. No heavy makeup.
  • 24 hours — no strenuous exercise. No alcohol.
  • 2 weeks — don't rub the treated areas. No facials or high heat, including steam rooms and saunas.
  • Results — start at 3–5 days, full effect at 2 weeks. Large muscles: at least 4 weeks.

Touch-ups

If you need a touch-up, it's the same $6 a unit — and the 20-unit minimum is waived.

  • Face areas — within 1 month of your treatment
  • Large muscles (masseter, trapezius, calves) — within 2 months, though we'd rather see you by 6 weeks
